The Joseph E. Shaner Company > News > Press Releases FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joseph
E. Shaner Company The
Joseph E. Shaner Co. in Baltimore has been named by the American Society
of Association Executives (ASAE) as one of only 28 association management
companies (AMC) nationwide to have met the standards of practice set
by the ASAE AMC Accreditation Commission. Established
this past spring, the Accreditation Program was developed to identify
practices indicative of quality AMCs; assess the procedures of individual
AMCs; formally recognize those AMCs that meet requirements set forth
by the Accreditation Commission; and improve the quality of services
provided to the association community. Fifteen
standards set for ASAE-Accredited AMCs include requirements that the
AMC maintain bonding and comprehensive insurance coverages to protect
association clients; manage all client accounts and funds in compliance
with accounting rules and regulations as promulgated by the Financial
Accounting Standards Board; have written policies precluding co-mingling
of assets among client associations or with assets of the AMC; and
while operating ethically and in compliance with all applicable laws
and regulations, recognize the unique missions, goals, structures,
and needs of their association clients and use their best efforts
to meet those needs. Accredited-AMCs
are also required to ensure that employees are certified or qualified
to provide services to clients when certification or a particular
qualification is necessary to serve the client effectively; and to
maintain full and accurate records of association clients, maintain
confidentiality of client records, data, proceedings, contracts, and
other information and maintain and provide a written confidentiality
policy to clients. Established
in 1974 by Thomas C. Shaner, a Certified Association Executive (CAE),
The Joseph E. Shaner Co. provides association management services
to over a dozen prominently recognized non-profit trade and professional
associations including the American Institute of Floral Designers,
Professional Grounds Management Society, Maryland Optometric Association,
Maryland Chiropractic Association, Maryland Association of Mortgage
Brokers, Maryland Improvement Contractors Association and the Chesapeake
Human Resources Association. Also
served by the Shaner organization are the Building Owners and Managers
Association of Baltimore; the Maryland Chapters of the National Association
of Industrial and Office Parks, Appraisal Institute, Criminal Defense
Attorneys and Public Relations Society of America; Property Owners
Association of Baltimore, National Association of Insurance and Financial
Advisors of Baltimore and the Baltimore City Dental Society. "It's
early in the evolution of the Accreditation Program," said ASAE
President and CEO Michael S. Olson, CAE, "but ASAE anticipates
this accreditation will become widely recognized in the association
management field as the distinguishing mark among AMCs." ###
