Thomas C. Shaner is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and a former Accredited Member (APR) of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

Mr. Shaner's role as the executive director of local, state and national organizations keeps him in contact with his counterparts throughout the U.S. He has served as president or chairmain of several associations:

• Associated Executives of the Building Owners and Managers Association-International
• Associations Advisory Council of the National Association of Life Underwriters
• Floral Associations Council of the Society of American Florists
• Maryland Chapter of PRSA
• Maryland Society of Association Executives
• Beautiful Baltimore
• Baltimore City College Alumni Association

Shaner is a past chairman of the Board of Regents of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for Organization Management at the University of Delaware where he developed and taught its association public relations curriculum. In addition, he has conducted association management workshops and lectures for other groups of association executives including several for the Association Management Companies Council of ASAE.

In 1991, Tom was recognized by the Baltimore Life Underwriters Association with the George S. Robertson Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the industry in his role as Executive Director. He was similarly recognized by the Maryland Optometric Association with the V. Eugene McCrary Award in 1994, by the Maryland State Association of Life Underwriters with its Paul J. Murphy Award in 1995 and by the Society of American Florists for his work for the American Institute of Floral Designers with its John H. Walker Award in 1995.
